**************
Portage County Youth Soccer has created a player development program available
to all registered soccer players aged 5-14 years old. It is often said that the
effect of player development in any sport is immeasurable.
Purpose:
The PCYS Player Development Program was formed to provide high-level training to
benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels; to identify a pool
of players in each age group from which a team will be selected for league and
tournament play; and, through the use of carefully selected and licensed
coaches, develop a mechanism for the exchange of ideas and curriculum to improve
all levels of coaching.
How do I participate?
By filling out the form, attaching the fee,
and mailing to PCYS, P O Box 906, Stevens Point, WI 54481
The PCYS Player Development Evaluation
and Selection Process
All registrations in the General Sessions will be evaluated
based on 4 general areas of skill/playing development – Technical Ability,
Tactical Awareness, Physical Capabilities, and Psychological components
(concentration, focus, attitude, toughness).
Sessions will be designed around general topics and players will be
encouraged to display the lessons in “match” play in every session. Players,
aged 11-14, will be invited to attend an Advanced Development Program. Through
the Advanced Program, players will train, and be evaluated for a tournament
team, and possible league play.
Each player will receive a written evaluation at the end of
the General Session and the Advanced Development Session.
What will player
development teach?
Players are divided into groups on the basis of age and gender
(5-7 year olds, 8-10, 11-14). These groups conduct training sessions developed,
monitored and evaluated by the Player Development Coaching Staff for each
specific group. As players progress with their age groups they are evaluated on
the four components that make up a soccer player:
1.
Technical ability (passing, receiving, dribbling, defending)
2. Tactical awareness (decision making, supporting roles and combination play)
3. Physical capabilities (fitness, speed, strength, endurance)
4. Psychological Component (attitude, concentration, focus)
What is Advanced Player
Development Program?
The Advanced Player development Program is designed to provide
high-level competition and training for participating players. During this
training and competition, players who are capable of performing at a higher
level of play are identified for possible select/tournament team participation.
Select/Tournament teams are open to players of any age. Basically if a player
shows the Technical, Physical and mental ability to play at any select age group
level they may be considered for team selection.
What is the cost for
Advanced Player Development?
There will be two associated fees:
1. Program Fee’s, this pays coach’s fee’s and club cost.
2. League and tournament fees.
What are the Benefits
of Participating in PCYS Player Development?
Development as a player. The opportunity to train and play with the best player's in one's
age group. Quality instruction from licensed coaches. High Degree of technical skill development.
When
are the sessions? General
Player Development Program begins week of April 10 – end week of May 8 (based
on field availability). Sessions will be on Monday evenings. Each group will
train for 90 minutes. A final schedule will be posted on the PCYS website and
will be emailed to participating players and parents. Advanced
Development will start May 15, and will continue through mid/late June. A final
